(CM)2 Scholars Program

Our Creating College Minded Middle Scholars Program works with students in grades 5-8 to start them on the college track early through a rigorous math and reading curriculum. Our program combines academic rigor and college knowledge in a fun way. We partner with the University of Alabama at Birmingham to implement their Birmingham College Bound curriculum. Scholars interact and engage with the content in a way that increases their ability to analyze problems and think creatively about solutions. Our model can be implemented as a Saturday, weekday, or summer program.

College Compass Program

College Compass engages high school students through four core services: workshops that deliver a road map of the college-admissions process, counseling for vital one-on-one admissions advice, ACT test preparation courses to maximize scoring potential, and college fairs and tours to explore campuses and identify a credible pool of potential schools. The powerful combination of these four core services empowers our students with the knowledge, credentials, and confidence to gain access to the college or university of their choice! 100% of College Compass graduates apply to college and on average receive over $50,000 in scholarships/ financial aid awards.

Components included in the four core services:
FAFSA workshop / financial aid & scholarship advising
College application workshop
Parent engagement
ACT practice tests
Advice on best-fit schools
Coaching for college interviews and admissions essays
Access to Achieve Alabama scholarship and college search platform
Help applying for targeted awards (We have helped students achieve National Merit and Gates Millennium awards)

Standardized Test Preparation

We know that college admissions testing is one of the biggest levers for increasing college access. There are countless students who struggle to accurately represent their knowledge on standardized test. Our trained instructors walk students through both strategy and content. Our ACT prep courses includes 2-3 mock exams using actual ACT released tests which we utilize to run detailed individual and school score reports. Schools even have the option of receiving data based professional development to inform their instruction. Our model is flexible, allowing us to work with each partner on an individual basis. We provide small group and whole grade instruction in-school, after school, or on weekends. We have one day, short term, and long term courses, so it is never too late or too early for students to prepare. We subsidize our courses which allows us to provide this service to students at half the cost quoted by for profit companies.

Birmingham Summer Institute

BSI empowers students from underserved populations to explore their own identities and become agents of change in their schools, communities and beyond through academic excellence, exposure to enriching activities and social and emotional development.

Our top priority for BSI is to meet the holistic needs of all of our students while centering our program activities around their personalities and cultures. We value what our students bring to the classroom and create experiences for them to learn new information independently. This empowers them to ask their own questions and make their own observations.
